Paintless Dent Repair

Paintless dent repair removes dents by working the metal back into shape, without fillers or repainting when the factory finish is intact. Here is how the technique works and when it may be right for your vehicle.

What It Is

Removing dents without repainting

Paintless dent repair (often shortened to PDR) is a technique for pushing a dented panel back into its original shape from behind, using specialized rods and precision lighting. Instead of sanding, filling and repainting the panel, our technicians work the metal itself.

Because the factory paint is left in place, the repair is limited to damage the paint can survive. That is why the technique suits some damage far better than others.

Damage that may qualify

  • Hail dents on the roof, hood, trunk and fenders
  • Door dings and parking-lot door dents
  • Small to medium dents where the factory paint is still intact
  • Dents on panels our technicians can reach from behind

Every dent is different. Suitability depends on a physical assessment of the damage — the depth of the dent, the condition of the paint, where it sits on the panel, and whether the back of the panel can be reached.

When It Fits

Benefits when the technique is appropriate

When an assessment shows paintless dent repair is the right approach, it can keep your vehicle closer to the way it left the factory.

  • The factory paint stays on the vehicle — no fillers and no repainting when the finish is intact
  • Usually less time in the shop than conventional body work
  • Original panels and paint stay original
  • Often a good fit for hail damage and minor parking-lot damage

Not every dent is a PDR dent

Dents with cracked or stretched paint, sharp creases, damage on panel edges, or damage over structural areas often need conventional body and paint work instead. Some vehicles need a mix of both.

We will tell you what we see once we have the vehicle in front of us, and what each option involves.
